Part time Program Coordinator

January - May (with the possibility of extension)

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced, creative, and enthusiastic Program Coordinator to support and expand our soon-to-launch writing and tutoring programs in Louisville between January and May 2019. With guidance from the Program and Volunteer Manager, the Program Coordinator will supervise the day-to-day delivery of programs, with duties including:

  • Manage Field Trips and Tutoring Programs in our Portland center

  • Attend other in-school programs as needed

  • Communicate with partner teachers and schools including: scheduling, MOUs, program development, volunteer training and communications, and all related tasks

  • Help develop lesson plans or other program content as needed

  • Serve as primary on-site contact for program

  • Build relationships with local public school administrators, teachers, and parents to effectively market the program

  • Supervise program interns and volunteers related to programs and general office maintenance

  • Manage volunteer recruitment, training and recognition, especially as it relates to field trips and tutoring

  • Initiate a strong culture of family engagement by working directly with parents with children in the Portland center


  • A flexible, creative spirit and a demonstrated passion for the mission, vision, and values of Young Authors Greenhouse

  • At least two years of experience delivering educational programs, ideally in a nonprofit setting

  • Knowledge of and passion for west Louisville and Portland communities, including knowledge of Jefferson County Public Schools

  • The ability to travel between Young Authors Greenhouse’s primary office in the Portland neighborhood and program sites around Louisville

  • Demonstrated skill working with students of all ages from diverse backgrounds

  • Experience in volunteer coordination, including training and retention, preferred

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including experience communicating with a variety of audiences

  • Proven organizational and project management skills, including a strong ability to multi-task, with a focus on being proactive and results-oriented

  • Graphic design experience preferred, particularly knowledge of Adobe InDesign

  • Proficient Spanish speaker preferred

  • Enthusiasm for writing and an ability to share that with students

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field preferred
